Rivers Edge

Set on a rural site near Salida, Colorado, with panoramic views of the Arkansas River and the Collegiate Peaks, this custom mountain home is designed to sit quietly within the landscape. Its low-profile form preserves views across the site, allowing the surrounding mountain ridges to remain visible both over and through the structure.

At the heart of the home, a central living space frames unobstructed views of the river to the east and the mountains to the west. Sheltered outdoor rooms provide refuge from the intense sun, seasonal storms, and winds descending from the high peaks, while expansive glazing and operable walls immerse daily life in the sights and sounds of the river. Clad in weathered steel and raked plaster, the residence appears to float above the high-desert terrain, quietly framing the surrounding mountains and river.
