Brick City House

Located in a historic Denver neighborhood defined by early brick bungalows and generous front porches, this custom residence offers a contemporary interpretation of urban living. With limited outward views, the design is organized around an internal courtyard and pool, creating a private outdoor core that concentrates light, air, and seasonal change.

Influenced by the spatial clarity of Donald Judd and the atmospheric work of James Turrell, the architecture treats volume, light, and enclosure as primary materials. Carefully composed openings and framed voids shift attention between grounded material presence and open sky, reinforcing a quiet dialogue between structure and perception.

The home is grounded in material craft and restraint, using handmade brick, walnut, and glass to establish a warm, tactile palette. Precise detailing defines the relationship between interior and exterior space, shaping a calm urban retreat centered on light, atmosphere, and crafted material expression.
